A short version

I'm a software engineer at Cadence Design Systems, working on sparse linear algebra algorithms. Before that, I was a research physicist — most recently in the Acoustics Division of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, and before that at Applied Research in Acoustics — working on numerical methods for acoustic and seismic propagation and scattering. I got my Ph.D. from the Nuclear Theory Group at Stony Brook University, where I studied magnetic quasiparticles in quark-gluon plasma under Prof. Edward Shuryak.
